:: sno cones ::

shirt + belt : f21  |  skirt : old navy (dress,cut into skirt)  |  purse: gianni bini  |  necklace: j.crew inspired  |  shoes: american eagle  | sunnies : UO  |  baubles: f21, dillards, apricot lane

Growing up we would anxiously await Memorial Day as our official sign that spring has sprung, and summer was well on it's way.  But the best part of Memorial Day was the fact that Jerry Sno Cones, a local sno cone parlor, was officially open for business.  Back in the good ole days, my elementary school would have us sign a waiver to take a field trip to Jerry's.  On the day of the field trip we would go to school giddy with anticipation, armed with our waivers and the $1.08 it cost us to get a sno cone.  We would spend all day staring out our windows looking across the street to the small pink shop that served nothing more than sno cones, frozen bananas, chocolate covered cherries, and big, fat pickles.  At the end of the day we'd take our "field-trip"to Jerry's, cross the street, hand over our $1.08, and pick out our favorite sno cone.  I always got the rainbow - a hodgepodge of flavors.

Those were the best field trips ever.

Back then, Jerry's was a hidden treasure, known mainly to the people who lived around the neighborhood.   We would make sure to get our sno cone fix as often as we could ( multiple times a week) before they shut down on Labor Day.   Now, they're open year-round and have people driving from all over the city.  What once housed a simple menu, now offers the best cheeseburger and fried pickles in Memphis.  Normally, I'd be a bit annoyed that my favorite childhood spot has now become everyone else's  favorite spot (and their mom's too - no kidding!), but I'm actually glad that Jerry's is able to attract different types of people to the humble neighborhood I grew up in.  It's nice to see barriers being broken, one sno cone at a time.

  1. Oh how I adore your outfit. I wish I could pull off the maxi. I just look like I'm a sad awkward person drowning in fabric. But you. You look stunning.

    As for Jerry's, I love success stories like that, especially when it breaks down cultural divides that disrupt otherwise great cities. Lovely.
