:: Weekend Wear ::

 sweater : zara | pants : topshop (old)  | shoes: zara | sunnies : fossil | watch : michael kors | ring : ysl

Guys, I love me some oversized sweaters.  They're just so comfortable and cozy!  I spotted this on the Zara website during their sale a few weeks ago and now I'm wishing I snatched up the black one too. Oh, and these shoes?  I die over the cut and color.  So fun!  I've just got a short post for today.  Hope you all have a great Tuesday! xo!

:: Playdates ::

shirt: jcrew | jacket : asos | pants : old navy |  shoes : old navy | scarf : palestine

Almost two years ago, I took a position as a RN at the local children's hospital.  During my pre-employment physical, the nurse was collecting information about my vaccinations and asked if I was pregnant or could be pregnant (for booster shot reasons).  I remember my exact response was "There's always a possibility."  Truthfully, after a fruitless year of trying to conceive a baby my answer was pretty emotionless.  I went home and figured I should take a pregnancy test just incase I needed to get any booster shots.  I almost didn't because I knew that all I would see was that one line taunting me -  "not pregnant. "

But this time was different.  I felt different.  So take a pregnancy test I did and guess what- it was positive.   I was shocked and so so excited.

But then I remembered that I had just accepted a job.

Shit.  I was going to get fired before I even began.

Fast forward to a few weeks later, I decided to keep the pregnancy a secret for normal "wait it out" reasons and because I was so worried my boss would hate me.  One day at work, I was commenting that I didn't have much of an appetite and just didn't feel good.  A few minutes later I got a text from one of my sweet coworkers saying.

G: "Hey, do you think you could be pregnant?"

Oh crap, she knows.

Since this girl was one of my preceptors and we had previously talked about our family and kids  (and since I was dying to tell someone)  I confessed.  Funny thing is, my confession wasn't the surprise.  Her response was.

G: " I'm pregnant too!!"

N: "What?!?!  How many weeks are you?!  When are you due?! adjksfjka;ida!!"

G:  "  I'm about 6 weeks and I'm due in February!"

N: "WHAT?!  I'M 6 weeks too!!!"

Basically, after that conversation Gena and I were bound together for life.  Our first pregnancies - both girls.  When I remember being pregnant with Suzanne and thinking about her first year, Gena and her sweet baby Lucca are always there sharing our memories with us.  Lucca was born 8 days after Suzanne.  There's something so special about knowing someone from the moment they were born.  We are so grateful to have them and I am so happy that Suzanne was gifted an instant best friend.  I should probably apologize to Lucca for all of the times Suzanne's excitement scared her.  She get's her "overly-excited about everything" quality from me.  Sorry L. ;-)

Anyways,  yesterday's gorgeous weather was the perfect excuse to hang out with Gena and Lucca.  The only downfall was that everyone else and their extended family thought that being outside on a holiday was a good idea too.  Either way, we always love our play dates with our favorite Italian girls.    Gena is a girl after my own heart and I feel so lucky to have her with me on this crazy ride called motherhood.  Who would have imagined how nice it is to always have someone to talk to about nursing bra's, teething babies, and all things mommy.  I'm counting my lucky stars.

:: A Playful New Year ::

I know I've said this before, but if there ever was an outfit to fit me to a "T" it would be this one.  It's just so fun!  NYE is usually a cocktail of tight mini-dresses, sequins, and black, white, and gold - but wouldn't it be fun to ring in the new year with a fun, colorful look?  I think it'd be the perfect way to set the tone for a fun, productive year!  Truth be told, I'd love to wear this outfit any day of the year.  It's just so playful!

Now, all I need is my fairy god mother to help make this outfit come to life.

:: Sweaters + Silk ::

Top : F21 | Pants: Zara (old) | Shoes: Call it Spring | Watch : Michael Kors | Necklace : Banana Republic | Jacket: TJMaxx

I love being able to transition pieces from my summer wardrobe to my winter one.  These silk pants were a favorite of mine during warmer weather, and I love being able to reach for them again during the colder temps we've been having lately.  It's funny how a black sweater can instantly make an outfit look more classic.  The older I get, the more I find myself reaching for classic pieces.  I'll never give up my quirky outfits, but I'm starting to appreciate the beauty of simplicity in design.

Sunday Brunch

jacket : asos | shhirt : zara (old) | pants: old navy | shoes: elie tahari | watch : michael kors | necklace: ebay | sunnies : prada

The past few weeks Alaa, Zuzu, and I have made a little tradition out of going out for Sunday brunch.  Breakfast is by far my favorite meal, so I always look forward to sharing it with Alaa and the baby on the weekends.  We're trying to branch out more and dine at restaurants that we've never been to - mainly local.  We have a bad habit of frequenting the same restaurants over and over!  Plus, I look forward to dressing up for our brunch.  I wear scrubs to work and my days off are usually spent running around trying to get errands done with baby in tow - meaning flats are my go-to option.  Is it sad that I get excited for any chance to wear my heels? ha!  Helllooooo Motherhood.  You never cease to amaze me.

Hi guys!  It's been a while - a long while - since I've last posted, so I thought I'd pop in  today and say hello.  I've been thinking about this little blog a lot lately and I've missed all the creativity and inspiration behind it.  Truthfully, since the beginning of my pregnancy I've felt uninspired and not really into putting the effort needed to maintain this blog.  Which is weird, because I've probably been the most creative and made the most changes this past year than I have my whole life.  I guess I just really wanted to LIVE versus sit behind a computer and talk about it.  But,  I'm not ready to let go of this outlet just yet - I guess you could say I'm a little attached!

Anyways,  here is an outfit I wore this past week.  It's one of my favorite type of outfits since it's got little bits of fun, prep, and girly-ness all mixed in.  I decided to throw on the mirrored aviators last minute to make it less serious.  And those gold shoes?  I bought them YEARS ago and they've been one of my favorite purchases to date.

'ello moto

It's high time that I get myself a new leather jacket.  The last one I bought was maybe 5 or 6 years ago and I have worn that sucker out.  Plus, it doesn't fit as well anymore.  Hello post-pregnancy body ...we've got issues.  So as much as I wish that I could go ahead and buy the ultimate "for the rest of my life / investment piece" leather jacket, I will retreat to buying one that I will love up on just as much but for less $$.  Sound good to you?  Sounds good to me!

SO here's a round up of a few of my favorite moto jackets...obviously some of which are un-realistic, but then again who am I if not an un-realistic dreamer?

Zara //  Zara // H&M //
H&M // Zara

I'm absolutely obsessed with the cognac leather zara jacket, but then again I'm obsessed with anything that color.  The H&M quilted version is pretty cute, but I'm not sure if I want another fitted moto.  Maybe this time around I'll go with something edgier and looser.  And then color wise I'm kind of attracted to the white, but I feel like I owe it to myself to get a classic black.  Agh!  Decisions decisions!

:: Strawberries + Stripes ::

strawberry printed dress : UO | striped blazer: AE | shoes : zara | necklace: j.crew | watch : michael kors

Guess who finally got some sun this summer?  I'm not much of a laying out type of girl, but after two years of practically no pool time I was determined to do things differently this year.  And trust me things were very different...laying out revolved around a certain 6 month old's sporadic nap schedule and included the following supplies: a blanket, tanning lotion, san pelligrino (with a straw please!), pandora (helllooooo Lana del Ray + Florence & The Machine + Mumford & Sons) and...wait for it...a baby monitor.  Good times,  Good times.

And!  (I feel like I need to shout this from the roof tops) I finally found someone who colored my hair the way I've been wanting it to be for years!!  It's definitely time for a touch up - but oh my gosh- I'm so excited to finally have a go-to person.  I'm still doing the happy dance!

:: Turbans & Tee's ::

t-shirt : j.crew | denim : miu miu | heels + bag : zara | turban: old, mom | shades : prada | scarf: old, unknown | watch: michael kors

Scarves and hats are my favorite way to dress up on outfit.  It was in the low 80's this past weekend so I was able to get away with a light, summer scarf and a turban that I got from my mom.  My original intention was to go for a boho look, but I kind of got side tracked in the process.  But, that's what's so fun about dressing up!  You can constantly switch and re-arrange things until they work for you .  I always love investing in fun accessories that make my heart skip a beat.  It lets me channel a side of myself that isn't always displayed and it lets me convey those feelings to everyone around me without uttering a single word.

And that my dears, is what I love about dressing up in general.

:: White, Gold, & Green ::

top + skirt : asos | sandals : target | purse: zara | sunnies : prada | necklace : j.crew | watch: michael kors | ring : ysl | head piece: sisters, gifted from a friend

I've had a vision of a lush green botanical garden as our backyard ever since we moved in.  Last year we tried planting ivy so that it could grow along the fence  and eventually create a green backdrop, but for one reason or another it didn't work and I eventually moved on to obsessing over other parts of the house.  But seeing this wall of green  in Chicago makes me want to try again.  Maybe a second go round will be more successful....

Hope you have a lovely week!

:: Birthday Outfit : Red + Pink ::

shirt : Jcrew  | skirt : Romwe | shoes : Isa Tapia | belt : Asos | watch : Michael Kors

Just a glimpse of what I wore for my birthday dinner last weekend in Chicago. We walked around for hours, caught sunset at the top of the Willis Tower, and then walked for around for a few more hours trying to find a restaurant that was open.  Apparently restaurants in the business area of  downtown Chicago close like at 8 p.m. on Sundays?

oh, and...

Red + Pink + Gold+ Tutu = One of my favorite outfits ever

After a rough weekend, I'm ready for a good week.

 Happy Monday!

4th of July Outfit Inspiration

Happy 4th of July!  I thought I'd re-visit a few of my favorite red, white, and blue inspired outfits today. Hope these ideas help you feel patriotic without making you wear a gas station "God Bless America" t-shirt.  Hope you enjoy the food, fireworks, and fun today!

<< Red, White, & Blue >>

T-shirt: J.Crew | Skirt : ASOS | Heels: Zara | Sunnies: F21 | Watch : Michael Kors | Ring : YSL | Necklace : J.Crew | Knuckle Rings: Charming Charlies

There's something about the 4th of July that makes me so happy.  I love the whole aura of it - the BBQ's, the swimming, the carnivals,  the fireworks!  I guess since my birthday is only a few days later it's kind of the pre-party to any upcoming festivities.  It doesn't hurt that I absolutely love wearing red,white, and blue together either!  This would be the perfect outfit to wear to a night of firework watching - the skirt is linen and the heels are kitty heels so it's super comfortable.

What are your plans this 4th?  I work the day before, the day of, and the day after so I'm pretty sure I'll barely be able to keep my eyes open during any firework shows, but I'd never voluntarily miss it :-)

p.s. I'll post a round up of a few Independence Day worthy outfits later this week!
