Whenever I get a small break from school I am always so excited to try a new DIY project. I think I have a problem... My vacation list usually goes a little something like this :
- sleep
- clean
- bake
- DIY: sew, paint, etc.
- repeat...
So on my 2 week summer vacation my husband and I tackled on the project of reupholstering a wingback chair. As soon as I saw the chair I knew I had to have it. I wish I could have kept it the way it was, but it was dirty and the fabric was worn. Just not in the best condition overall.
I debated whether or not to use velvet, a boldly printed fabric, or something that can be used interchangeably in different rooms of our home. I decided on the latter.
It's not quite done, but I think for our first time we did a good job. It's actually quite tedious work, and you definitely need two people. One to stretch, and the other to staple. Or, in our case, one to correct your mistakes (my husband) and one to continue making mistakes (me!)
It makes me happy just thinking about it :)
I'd like to add brass tacks along the sides of the arms but that will have to wait until my next vacation. Enjoy!
I am completely impressed. So wish i had this talent.
ReplyDeleteThank you! We had fun working on it :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Amazing job, it looks brand new!
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for your sweet comment on my blog. It made my day. :)
That's incredible! I have a chair I've been wanting to re-upholster and I've been too intimidated to try (keep in mind my chair is simple in design). And here you are tackling your first try on a wingback! Very impressive!
ReplyDeleteThank you! You're so sweet! I think you should give the chair a shot! It looks intimidating but is manageable. I'd love to see pictures if you do it! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWOW you did an awesome job! I've also been too intimidated to try to reupholster two settees that I'm dying to use. But this gives me confidence. I'm off to buy a staple gun. =)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. That set is really nice, right? I found it originally on eBay.. but the source was here: http://www.ifdfurnishings.com/servlet/the-4787/Carleton--dsh--Traditional-Fabric/Detail
