Wingback Chair

Whenever I get a small break from school I am always so excited to try a new DIY project.  I think I have a problem... My vacation list usually goes a little something like this :

• sleep
• clean
• bake
• DIY: sew, paint, etc.
• repeat...

So on my 2 week summer vacation my husband and I tackled on the project of reupholstering a wingback chair.  As soon as I saw the chair I knew I had to have it.  I wish I could have kept it the way it was, but it was dirty and the fabric was worn.  Just not in the best condition overall.

 It's a good thing we decided to strip her down. Look at the mess underneath!!

I debated whether or not to use velvet, a boldly printed fabric, or something that can be used interchangeably in different rooms of our home.  I decided on the latter.  

We  My husband fixed the structure and we removed all of the old batting and foam and put new ones.  The seating wasn't steady so my husband put a piece of wood underneath for additional support.

It's not quite done, but I think for our first time we did a good job.   It's actually quite tedious work, and you definitely need two people.  One to stretch, and the other to staple. Or, in our case, one to correct your mistakes (my husband) and one to continue making mistakes (me!)  

It makes me happy just thinking about it :)

I'd like to add brass tacks along the sides of the arms but that will have to wait until my next vacation.  Enjoy!
